Bimal has always loved fretless bass guitars - even though he is first and foremost a (six-string) guitarist. One Christmas, he was wandering round Sound Control in Birmingham with his wife, and mentioned that what he would really like was a fretless bass guitar - but one with the fret positions marked (as he's not that good that he could play without any guidance on the neck at all!) - they then walked round a corner and lo and behold - there was a second-hand Yamaha RBX200F long scale fretless bass guitar for £99! Suffice it to say, Gill bought it for Bimal for Christmas, and the rest, as they say, is history! Even though it isn't an expensive bass guitar, it has an excellent sound, and the extra expression thanks to being fretless has benefitted many Beyond Words songs for a number of years! Yamaha don't make this bass anymore, but the successor and indeed the whole of their current range of basses can be viewed here.
