This page lists comments about the gigs (written at the time - so they may seem strange with the benefit of hindsight!) that took place during 2008, together with links to the appropriate set of photos. Thanks again to everyone who supported us at these gigs - it wouldn't have been the same without you! We can say without doubt that 2008 has been the biggest and most successful year ever - but then we say that at the end of each year, as things get bigger and better for us! Certainly, the stage is set for an awesome 2009 as well: we'll just have to see in 12 months' time if it has lived up to its promise!! We played our New Year's Eve gig this year at Hawkins Sports & Social Club, and we received a fantastic reception from the very enthusiastic party-goers! We pulled out all the stops and by the second set onwards the dance floor was packed to capacity! We all saw in the New Year with Slade's rocking version of "Auld Lang Syne" and the partying continued well into 2009! Thanks to all of you, and we'll be seeing you again during the coming year! Gill's photos once again capture the excitement and colour! We returned for the third time in 2008 to Church Hill Social Club on Sunday 28th December, and received an excellent reception from those who had come out on a chilly evening, most of whom had never seen us before! The material went down really well, and everyone had a great time, as we did as well - Gill's photos show that well despite Bimal's strange expressions (he's probably concentrating too much!) and we'll see you all again in 2009! We returned to Cannock Social WMC in association with Diamond Entertainments on Saturday 27th December with several new songs, and a few PA problems: we kept going despite being unhappy with several technical aspects of the show, and our sincere thanks to the punters who stuck with us and even yelled for more at the end! We'll see you again next year, and we'll have sorted out the problems! At least Gill's photos turned out OK, and they're here now! We returned to one of our regular haunts, Dudley ExServicemen's Club, on Christmas Eve, and had a great time! Many thanks for the brilliant response from the club members, and it was clear that everyone had a great time - the Christmas songs were especially well received, as you would expect! We'll see you all again in 2009, and Gill's photos are here to remind you! We returned to Rowley & Blackheath Labour Club on Saturday 13th December, and had a unique gig! As well as a fantastic reception from the very enthusiastic crowds, we also experienced a few technical hitches which we had never known before! Bimal's trusty guitar strap actually broke in the middle of "Rockin' All Over The World" and made it very difficult to play guitar for the last couple of songs of the first set (Gill captured a picture of him sitting down, shock, horror!) - then John's radio mike decided to play silly games resulting in an old Shure cabled mike being drafted back in during the second half! Thanks for your patience during these trials, and we're back, this time in the bar, on 3rd January, and this time we'll have no hitches! Gill's stirling pictures captured the drama and the action, as always! We played our third appearance at the Waggon & Horses Family Pub on Saturday 22nd November, and as always received a very enthusiastic welcome from the crowds there. We were able to unleash some "new" songs that we hadn't played there before, and these were very well received - once again, the dancers kept the floor busy, and in between things, Gill got some more excellent photos. We'll be back for 3 visits again in 2009, and many thanks to Brian for his continued support: it is very much appreciated! We played our second gig of the year at Harrisons Sports & Social Club on Saturday 8th November, and despite the wet weather, the punters responded enthusiastically to the songs we performed, and we received many compliments on the show. Hopefully we'll be seeing you all again in 2009, and as always Gill took some excellent photos that capture the feel of the gig! We returned once again to one of our old stomping grounds at Brierley Hill Labour Club on Saturday 18th October, and received a very warm and enthusiastic welcome from the crowds, many of whom hadn't seen us before! The songs went down really well, as usual, and the dancefloor was kept busy throughout the second half, especially led by Sandra! We'll look forward to seeing you all again in 2009! Until then, here are a few photos that Gill took during the gig, just to remind you! We received a wonderful reception from everyone at Blackheath Central Methodist Church on Saturday 11th October, which is where the band originally began, all those many years ago! We've come a long way since those days, and everyone enjoyed seeing the fruits of the progress. You can see a few pictures that Gill took of the event here! We returned to Stechford Social Club for the first time since our March 2007 gig on Saturday 27th September. The club has been beautifully refurbished, and it was a pleasure playing in it. The audience gave us a great reception, demanding 4 encores, and the dancers kept things lively throughout the second set. We'll see you all again in 2009, and until then, we've got some nice photos to remind you of the gig! We played our second gig at Pelsall Social Club on Saturday 13th September after our storming debut in April, and the packed club enjoyed another first class performance, including old favourites, classic hits, and new chart toppers! Once again, the dancers kept the dancefloor packed throughout our final set, as well as every now and then in the first couple of sets. We'll be seeing you again next year, so remember to check out the 2009 bookings, and Gill's photos can be seen right here! We returned to Leek Working Men's Conservative Club on Saturday 6th September following our successful debut back in March, and it was obvious that everyone really enjoyed the evening! The dancefloor was kept busy all night, and the selection of songs seemed to cover everyone's favourites. Gill got some great shots which are here, and we'll see you all again in February 2009! We returned to Ball Green Working Mens Club in Ball Green, Stoke-on-Trent on Saturday 30th August, our previous visit having been in December 2007. We unleashed several new songs and routines, and after a gradual build-up, the dancers got up and took over. Everyone seemed to have a great time, and Gill managed to capture some of the magic, as usual. The pictures can be perused here, and we hope to see you all again next year! We were invited to participate in a benefit event in aid of some fellow performers called The Wanderers by George Brookes (many thanks George), along with several other artists. As it turned out, only a couple of the acts were able to attend the event at Catshill Social Club, so we shared the bill with a group called The Retrophonix - but they weren't all able to get there so they got in an alternate vocalist (well done Elaine!) and were billed as The Subs! George also performed some numbers, and it would be fair to say that a great night was had by all, and over £300 was raised, so it was all well worthwhile! Gill once again took some snaps of us. We returned to Charlemont Bowling Club on Sunday 10th August to again play to the punters in Taff's club. We received a good reception, and the new numbers were especially well received, and thanks to those who danced later on! We'll be seeing you all again next year, and until then, here are the photos! We played our first ever gig at Beechtree & Wollescote Welfare Club in association with Diamond Entertainments on Saturday 9th August and had a great time, as did the enthusiastic audience - they demanded 5 encores (our equal record!) and kept the dance floor busy for the whole of the second half. We enjoyed using the spacious stage, and the luxury of two dressing rooms! All being well, we'll see you all again in the not-too-distant future, and the photos can be seen here! We had a whale of a time in our second 2008 gig at Dudley Ex Servicemens Club on Saturday 2nd August - we had guest vocalists joining us on stage, and were upstaged a few times by Shrek! Check out the photos to see exactly what we mean! Everyone had a brilliant time again, and the new songs seemed to go down very well. We'll see you all again on Christmas Eve for a very special celebration: don't miss it! We made our return visit to the Waggon & Horses Family Pub on Saturday 19th July, following our very successful gig back in March 2008. This visit proved to be every bit as successful as the last, with enthusiastic dancers keeping the dance floor packed again and demanding encores (which we are always happy to provide!). We even had some people asking us not to stop for our half hour break in between our two sets - they wanted us to keep playing! We also gave out loads of gig fliers as people wondered where we were playing next. Suffice it to say, we'll be back in November and it looks like we'll be booked for 2009 soon! Gill's choice photos have appeared as if by magic! We made a return visit to Cannock Social Working Mens Club on Saturday 12th July for the first time since our epic New Year's Eve gig at the end of 2007. Surprisingly, most of the audience hadn't already seen us, but everyone had an excellent night, and the new songs went down well, as would be expected. Gill, fresh out of hospital, was again on hand to photograph the gig: the results are here - and we'll look forward to seeing you all again in December! We returned to Bewell Head Working Mens Club in Bromsgrove on Saturday 28th June, where we had been so warmly welcomed last year. The welcome was every bit as warm this time, and also set a new record as far as encores is concerned: we were asked to do 5 encores! We all had a great time as you would expect, and the crowds kept the dance floor busy all night. Gill was able to take some photos this time, and we'll look forward to seeing you all again on our next visit! We returned to Rowley & Blackheath Labour Club for our first 2008 gig for them on Saturday 21st June, and were greeted by a packed club, and a very warm and friendly atmosphere! Several people had even seen us before, and were coming back for more, so it was good to be able to include some new songs, being performed for the first time here. The dance floor was packed for all of the second set, and we received enthusiastic requests for several encores, which we gladly played! We'll see you all again in December. Unfortunately, we don't have our usual photos due to circumstances beyond our control: sorry! We made an unexpected return visit to Church Hill Social Club on Sunday 1st June: the act they already had booked had to cancel, so we received a call asking if we could help out - which we were only too pleased to do. The reduced audience still had an excellent evening, and we made sure that we included a selection of different material for the benefit of those who saw us before, including solo turns for everyone! Check out Gill's photos to see what happened! We returned to Charlemont Bowling Club in West Bromwich on Sunday 25th May for the first of our 2008 gigs for them. We received a great welcome, as we have come to expect from the punters at Taff's club. We were also able to record the gig so there should be some new MP3 files appearing later on, plus of course Gill's photos, including a special celebrity picture, which you can see here! We returned to the Hill & Cakemore ExServicemen's Club for our first visit in 2008, and to play our 11th consecutive gig this year, on Saturday 10th May. Needless to say we received a warm welcome as usual, and the variety of music was well received, with the dance floor filling up in the second half. Bimal decided to try out a new strategy to cope with our very bright lighting as you can see from the pictures! We'll look forward to seeing you all again as soon as we can! We were honoured by being asked to take part in the relaunch celebrations for what was St Mary's Catholic Social Club but will now be called Church Hill Social Club, on Saturday 3rd May. The gig was completely sold out, and we all had a brilliant evening. The room had been beautifully decorated with dozens and dozens of balloons, which complimented the decor perfectly. Thanks to the energetic dancers who packed the floor, and we'll look forward to seeing you all again in December. Gill was trying out another new camera (!) and you can check out the excellent results by clicking this link! Good luck to Chris who is now looking after the club! We played another new club on Saturday 26th April, at Rugeley Progressive Working Mens Club, in association with Diamond Entertainments. We had been told that everyone loves to dance there, and this was certainly true. The house band got everyone dancing to more traditional ballroom/structured dancing, so we weren't sure whether our material would be to their liking. We needn't have been concerned, as the large dance floor was full by our third song, and stayed that way throughout the night! Many thanks to everyone for making us feel so very welcome for for your warm and enthusiastic responses to our songs. We should be seeing you again later in the year if all goes according to plan, as well as again in 2009, so we'll look forward to it. Until then, here are some of Gill's photos. We're having a run of playing in new clubs, and Saturday 19th April was no exception, as we played our first ever gig at Cannock ExServicemen's Club. We had another excellent evening with the warm and friendly crowds in this lovely club, who again made us feel very welcome! Much dancing followed, as well as several encores, and everyone had an excellent evening. Many thanks to everyone, and hopefully we'll be seeing you again in the not-too-distant future! The photos can be seen here! We played our first ever gig at Pelsall Social Club on Saturday 12th April, and were completely bowled over with the very warm and enthusiastic reception we received! Many thanks to Margaret and the excellent crowds who made us feel right at home, and for the many compliments that we were given regarding our performances. You'll be pleased to learn that we'll see you all again in September, and here are some pictures of the gig in your lovely club! We returned to one of our long-standing clubs on Saturday 5th April - this is the fourth year that we have played at Brierley Hill Labour Club, where we have always received enthusiastic support and a warm reception. This gig was no different, and it was great to see so many people who had already seen us previously, and had come back for more! Despite the band suffering from a variety of ailments this week, we still gave it our all, and the crowds definitely seemed to appreciate everything: many thanks! We'll see you again later in the year, but here are some photos to remind you until then! Our first performance at Pear Tree & District WMC on Saturday 29th March, in association with Diamond Entertainments, went down a treat - once part of the band had got over their satellite navigation trying to tell them to go the wrong way down a one-way street! The punters had a great evening, and the dance floor was kept pretty busy, especially in the second half. Hopefully we'll be seeing you all again later in the year! For now, here are a few photos to remind you! We had a great time performing at Cradley Labour Club on Easter Sunday 23rd March, and even had the honour of judging their Easter Bonnet Competition! The whole evening was very enjoyable, and the punters seemed to enjoy the choice of songs, including some of the less expected off-the-cuff extras! We'll look forward to seeing you all again later in the year, and here are Gill's lovely pictures! We played our first return visit of the year to Harrisons Sports & Social Club on Saturday 15th March. Despite is being a very wet and windy night outside, the crowds were enthusiastic and warm, and everyone had a great evening, us included! Thanks to the dancers who kept the dance floor busy, and we will work on getting some of the requested songs included for our next visit in November! You can check out a few photos taken by Gill here. We returned to the Waggon and Horses for the first time in 2008 on Saturday 8th March, but we are getting quite well known here, and have always gone down well with the punters. Tonight was no exception, with the "dance floor" absolutely packed for most of the evening - which is quite an achievement when you realise that there actually isn't a dedicated dance floor! We played several encores to enthusiastic applause and once again thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. People who spoke to us after the gig reckoned that we were "the best band they had ever seen playing in a pub" which is praise indeed. We'll be back in July determined to live up to such great comments! Here are a selection of photos taken by Gill and our friend Emma - thanks to them both for doing such a great job! We played our first ever gig for Leek Working Men's Conservative Club on Saturday 1st March and everyone had a whale of a time! The crowds were enthusiastic and seemed to be loving every minute, and we have already received some requests for our return visit in September - so you can be sure these numbers will be in our sets! Thanks for the warm welcome and here at last are the photos!! Our 2008 gig season kicked off at Dudley Ex Servicemens Club on Saturday 26th January and it certainly didn't disappoint! The club was packed with an excellent and enthusiastic crowd who joined in and kept the dance floor busy. We had a great evening, so many thanks to everyone at the club, and we'll be back to entertain you some more in August! Pictures? They're here as always! |
